DOPA Implements Data Supply Chains for European Economic and Financial Data July 2012

Media information

DOPA, a consortium project of six academic and SME partners, has received funding from the EU to implement and develop "data supply chains" for European economic and financial data.

DOPA will build on recent advances in data availability, linked data, cloud computing and data visualization to establish a technology platform and a broad repository of valuable business data, benefitting data seekers and data providers alike.

DOPA will provide not only an unparalleled resource of economic and financial data in linked data format, but also a publishing platform, helping data providers reach new audiences and monetize their data products. DOPA's original data pools already provide a wealth of quantitative and qualitative data that will now for the first time be available as linked data using common entity identifiers.

With these resources seeding the service, DOPA creates a foundation for other data providers to link to. The goal is to multiply the utility of each individual data source while simultaneously sharing the costs between them. This opens up a range of exciting and valuable opportunities in the fields of finance and economic research, business intelligence, journalism and policy making, and lowers the barrier of entry for SMEs that need to perform advanced analytics across multiple data pools.

DOPA is a specific targeted research project (STREP), co-funded by the European Union, within the Seventh Framework Programme. The consortium is led by Technische Universität Berlin (Germany). The other five partners are Internet Memory Research (France), DataMarket (Iceland), Okkam (Italy), VICO Research (Germany) and AMI Software (France/UK).
