Honorary Doctorate for Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Karl W. Böer

in the Atrium of the TU Berlin (Main Building)


On September 3rd, 2012 the TU Berlin bestowed the Honorary Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat. h.c.) upon Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Karl W. Böer.

The TU Berlin honors his contributions in semiconductor physics and solar energy. Professor Böer has received the honorary degree of natural sciences particulary for his contributions to the optical and electrical properties and crystal structure of semiconductors for thin film solar cells. In 1972 Professor Böer proposed SOLAR ONE, the first solar house with solar-generated heat and electricity. He is also founding editor of the journal physica status solidi.

The conferral of an honorary degree is a very rare event at the science faculty of the TU Berlin and happened only three times during the last 20 years.
